Nila Oak is a multi-instrumentist, mainly guitarist and songs composer of Indie folk from Switzerland. After being trained as a classical guitarist for 10 years during her childhood, she is then attracted by Indian classical music and especially by its rhythmic aspect through the tablas that she studies for 6 years in India in university and with her guruji Lachchu maharaj. Upon her return to Europe in 2012, she begin to discover bluegrass folk picking through her friendship with the Genevan guitarist Pascal Gravante. Her songs have the particularity of being mainly composed in open-tuning. In association with him, she recorded the album Trails (2018). Nila is now focusing on composing and recording new songs with Swiss musicians Yveline Schwab on Violin and back voice and La marco on double bass.
Nila Oak est une multi-instrumentiste, guitariste et compositrice de chansons Indie folk résidant en Suisse. Après s’être formée pendant son enfance en guitare classique au conservatoire de Caen (Normandie, France), elle est ensuite attirée par la musique classique indienne et surtout l’aspect rythmique de cette dernière. Ainsi, à 23 ans, elle étudie les tablas (percussions indiennes) pendant 6 ans en Inde à l’université et auprès de son guru Lachchu maharaj, célebre joueur de tablas de bénares. À son retour en Europe en 2012, elle commence à découvrir le folk picking à travers son amitié avec le guitariste Genevois Pascal Gravante et à partir de là, Nila compose son répertoire de chansons indie-folk qu’elle enregistre de 2015 à 2018 dans l’album Trails. Ses morceaux ont la particularité d’être majoritairement en open-tuning. Nila Oak est désormais occupée à la composition ainsi que l’enregistrement d’un nouvel album en association avec deux musiciennes de Suisse romande, la lausannoise Yveline Schwab au violon/contre-voix et mexico-valaisanne La marco à la contrebasse.
